Tomkins' Red Card Incident - A question for armchair referees....
Something just occurred to me. Of course Tomkins got his red, but ask yourself this....

.....Why did the Malteser get a yellow?

Was it not for a foul against Tomkins, in the penalty area?

Why, after the yellow for the Malteser, and the red Tomkins, was it not a penalty for West Ham?

Am I missing something here?

(If this has been done to death already, apologies and delete).

Re: Tomkins' Red Card Incident - A question for armchair referees....
Bilic had warned the players not to let the Maltese to wind them up (in the heat) long before the match

So what did they do?

Noble could quite easily have got himself sent off in the 1st 20mins. Luckily, he calmed down after half time (perhaps Bilic had been smashing teacups in his halftime talk!)

Tomkins fully deserved to get sent off for his aggressive retaliation. Sheer stupidity. He needs to grow up

The ball was dead at the time so obviously no penalty

That said, the ref was poor & not really in control for most of the match letting the Maltese get away with far too much, probably just because they were underdogs

I agree

And I was disappointed with whatever gesture because he did it because he was mad.

Along with most of the rest of the team.

Ultimately, the best way to get him back was to help knock them out.

Our boys need to learn the old wisdom of "Don't get mad; get even."

There are better ones if you really care, apparently the Italian press still got in quite a tizzy about it.

I stand gracefully corrected, (but not graceful enough to say I'm not 100% convinced by that clip).

Somehow I would have preferred the cocksucker insult more than the fat bastard insult. Calling him queer would hurt an Itie more than calling him fat.

But anyway and whatever.

Lily - he definitely puffed out both cheeks, not that I'm defending him but it's a little less inflammatory than the cocksucker thing.

Our centre backs are ruling themselves out of first choice picks without trying.

Sticking your tongue in your cheek looks a lot like puffing your cheeks at distance.

If it is puffing your cheeks, the ref can't do anything about it and could be seen on both sides.

But stupid argument but I am not alone at least

Good to learn how much play acting we will be up against..it won't happen again. Move on.

This is where the yids learnt to squeal and flap their arms around in the last few years.

Looks absolute cunty but unfortunately totally acceptable in Europe.

Lily

One rule even I wasn't aware of that I was pulled up on by a referee assessor at the end of last season was that if a centre forward and defender, for example, front up to each other and the defender punches the centre forward inside the penalty area... but does so when the ball is in play but up the other end of the pitch, then I'm not supposed to blow up for a penalty. I'm supposed to wait until the ball goes out of play then run back, send off the defender and then play on from there.

I don't understand that ruling, I thought when the ball is in play then you just blow up and award a free kick/penalty wherever an offence occurs even if off the ball... that actually happened and I gave a penalty...

I was livid with what Tomkins did, so fuck knows what Bilic felt. Absolute lunacy.

Beginning to think he just isn't good enough for the level we want to be at, and signing Ogbonna was more important than I thought.

That was a cocksucker tongue in cheek, no doubt. The discretion was that it was on the side of his face the ref couldn't see. It may have gone down as unsporting behaviour had it been seen. Risky as it could have been viewed as homophobic, which is a big no-no, along with racism these day.

Re: Tomkins' Red Card Incident - A question for armchair referees....
We need to be smarter and not be goaded into reacting by these muggy European sides intent on getting our players sent off with cheating and play acting.

Very naive so far, both Tomkins and sakho for the actual reds, and for reactions from some of the others.

It wasn't that discrete and I think you were just seeing one side of his face. I think he was actually puffing out his cheeks to say how fat Miccolli was.

Could be wrong except about the discrete part as he did it like three times in a row.

I'm a referee but I didn't see the incident.

As someone said, if the ball is not in play then you can't award a free kick/penalty.

Anyone notice Noble giving the discrete tongue in cheek cocksucker sign to the bloke he had the first bit of aggro with? Made me smile at first but then I realised how pissed off he was so early in the match. I thought he'd be the red at that point.

Hopefully two times and a bunch of yellow means they learn from it .

Make you right about worse to come. We will certainly be targeted as an easy team to wind up.

We have certainly put the IRON on irony considering we are in europe due to fair play.
